  • The Election Commission of India will celebrate the 7th National Voters’ Day across the country today (25 January 2017) for enhanced participation of citizens in the electoral process.
  • The list of the Padma awards is out,The Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award of the Republic of India, preceded by Bharat Ratna and followed by Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri (also Padmashree) is the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India, after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan. Awarded by the Government of India, it is announced every year on India’s Republic Day. This Year both Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri awards given are as follows:

  • The Union Government so far has awarded Rs. 60.9 crore as prize money to over 3.81 lakh consumers and 21,000 merchants under its two lucky draw schemes – Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana. The winners included small farmers, anganwadi workers, housewives and labourers and most of the winners were in the age group of 21-30 years.   • Government has notified that Co-operative Banks are not authorised to accept deposits under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Deposit Scheme (PMGKDS).  The deposits under this scheme can be accepted any banks to which the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (10 of 1949) applies.

  • The RBI Note Mudran printing press located in Mysuru (Karnataka) has broken all its past record by printing highest number of currency notes in December 2016. It printed 10.9 million notes on a single day, breaking the previous world record of 8.7 million notes printed in an American currency printing press.
  • State General Reserve Fund of Oman (SGRF), a Sovereign Wealth Fund of Oman and State Bank of India (SBI) have signed pact to infuse $150 million and $50 million respectively in second Oman India Joint Investment Fund (OIJIF), a private equity fund. OIJIF Fund II is targeting a corpus of $300 million by 2017-end.
  • Veteren actor Rishi Kapoor’s autobiography titled “Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored” was released. The book’s title has been borrowed from the famous song “Khullam Khulla Pyar Karenge Hum Dono” of his film Khel Khel Mein.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken a relief providing decision for the Non-Resident Indian and Indian Citizens who were staying abroad since November 9 to December 31post demonetization decision. As per the decision, the Indian Citizens can exchange their demonetized notes up to March 31, 2017 while the Non Resident Indian (NRIs) citizens can avail this facility up to June 30, 2017.
