  • The Union Government so far has awarded Rs. 60.9 crore as prize money to over 3.81 lakh consumers and 21,000 merchants under its two lucky draw schemes – Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana. The winners included small farmers, anganwadi workers, housewives and labourers and most of the winners were in the age group of 21-30 years. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka have emerged as the top five states with the maximum number of winners
  • Government has notified that Co-operative Banks are not authorised to accept deposits under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Deposit Scheme (PMGKDS).  The deposits under this scheme can be accepted any banks to which the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (10 of 1949) applies.
  • Indian Navy’s largest warship of the, INS Vikramditya became the first warship to be equipped with its own dedicated ATM (Automated Teller Machine). The ATM onboard of the ship will be provided by India’s largest public sector bank State Bank of India (SBI).

  • The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has banned the import of skins of reptiles and fur of minks, foxes and chinchillas. It is considered as a landmark decision that will spare the lives of tens of thousands of animals killed for their exotic skins for the leather industry.
  • The Union Cabinet has given an ‘in-principal’ approval for strategic disinvestment of 26% equity shares in defence equipment manufacturer BEML Ltd. out of government’s shareholding of 54.03%.
  • The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Limited will soon launch new ticketing app IRCTC Rail Connect. The app will be equipped with latest technology and will be based on next generation e-ticketing system.

  • The Revenue Department under the Union Finance Ministry has extended SWIFT (single window interface for facilitation of trade), a single window customs clearance facility for export consignments.
  • The Union Government will soon roll out Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) to boost export infrastructure by tying up with States. The export infrastructure scheme will help states to develop their own export strategy in alignment with the National Foreign Trade Policy.
  • The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has issued the notification of setting up of Indian Skill Development Services (ISDS).

  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, PM Modi has declared that in rural areas the number of houses being built would be increased by 33 per cent.

  • PM Modi said that the cash credit limit for small businesses would be raised to 25 per cent from 20 per cent. The Credit guarantee for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises would be raised to Rs 2 crore from current Rs 1 crore.
  • The Prime Minister on December 31, 2016, has approved that senior citizens would get a monthly fixed interest of 8% on their deposits of up to 7.5 lakhs for 10 years.
  • PM Modi announced two new housing schemes for the urban poor. As per the decision, home loan taken by urban poor in 2017 up to Rs. 9 Lakh would get 4 percent subvention on interest while 3 percent subvention on interest on home loans of up to Rs. 12 Lakh.
